Minnesota: The Drive-in

In true summer fashion, we escaped to the drive-in on a hot summer night. It didn't really matter that what we were dying to see was Superman or that we drove an hour to get there, this was the summer activity we were longing for all summer long!

We drive up to the outdoor screen. Hundreds of cars are all neatly queued up around the screen getting out their coolers, their folding chairs and blankets. Like a big picnic with a little less talking. R brought a frisbee and as we waited for the sun to set, we played in the grass with the other hyperactive kids, high on sugar and the summer air.

There is a huge concession hut in the middle of the field, the smell of vats of freshly popped and obscenely buttered tubs of popcorn blowing in the breeze. We packed a few slices of key lime pie from Ruby's birthday dinner along with some cold water... We turned up the radio to 90.1 FM and waited for the previews to start.
